Evaluation

--> For my final major piece I was asked to create a photography piece under the theme of Time/Space.

For my final piece I have composed a Star Wars based piece to show the correlation between modern day oppression to even the worst kind of oppression fictional or not. I have produced a two-part photography project one being male the other female. The images include a model in the foreground wearing black jeans, grey shoes, a black t-shit a purple hoody and a storm trooper helmet. The background being a ruined graffiti covered wall with the words, “THE REPUBLIC HAS FALLEN THE EMPIRE IS RISING” a galactic imperial symbol lays just to the left of the text. The used location is a rundown fly over so it gave perfect coverage to make the surroundings dull and grey, which is emphasized by the rain, which all over darkens the image.

My original aim for this piece was to create an image to put across the point of I doesn’t matter how good things look on the outside, we are always being oppressed and showing that we are all just clones, living our lives following orders and being punished for disobeying. And to use Star Wars to show this, as is well known Star Wars revolves around oppression and is a perfect influence for this topic.

My plan changed a few times, the location was originally going to be a metallic background, and the image was to be taken in the rain this is influenced buy a planet from the Star Wars universe called Kamino . This changed because I could not find a location to support this idea and did not have the appropriate funding to recreate the vision I had of my location and did not want to risk exposing the equipment to rain and could not think of a way to do this and protect the equipment ant the same time.
A couple of things had gone wrong by the time of the shoot, these problems were, problems with obtaining the props (helmet), trouble creating and transporting the paper stencil due to weather problems and agreeing with myself on what the female attire should have been; colours, styles, accessories etc. Having to find a last minute location was also a pain but after searching the city I found the perfect location.
On the day of the shoot as usual I expected everything that could have gone wrong to go wrong but everything was on within the set times and the shoot itself went extremely well not a single hitch in the plan.

If I could do this project again I would improve by taking more time in planning and search for multiple locations instead of just checking for one, multiple options are always best used. I would look deeper into the weather instead of just taking a swing and guessing the day and its weather, this would lead to better shots and less photoshop to make the images look much more legit and work more on the attire.
I would do this defiantly my looking after my time and doing much more research, my organizational skills throughout the project could have been vastly improved.

I would like to see my work displayed in an art gallery or maybe even street art. Say if my work was displayed as street art there is always the question of how to display a photo on the streets, if I could choose out of the two I would prefer my piece to be presented as street arts.

I do not think I could choose one specific part of my piece but If I were to put my finger on a certain part of my piece then I would have to choose the pose of the male model, I like how relaxed and comfortable the pose is compared to the female which in most of the images rather rigged.
