Evaluation

--> For my final major piece I was asked to create a photography piece under the theme of Time/Space.

For my final piece I have composed a Star Wars based piece to show the correlation between modern day oppression to even the worst kind of oppression fictional or not. I have produced a two-part photography project one being male the other female. The images include a model in the foreground wearing black jeans, grey shoes, a black t-shit a purple hoody and a storm trooper helmet. The background being a ruined graffiti covered wall with the words, “THE REPUBLIC HAS FALLEN THE EMPIRE IS RISING” a galactic imperial symbol lays just to the left of the text. The used location is a rundown fly over so it gave perfect coverage to make the surroundings dull and grey, which is emphasized by the rain, which all over darkens the image.

My original aim for this piece was to create an image to put across the point of I doesn’t matter how good things look on the outside, we are always being oppressed and showing that we are all just clones, living our lives following orders and being punished for disobeying. And to use Star Wars to show this, as is well known Star Wars revolves around oppression and is a perfect influence for this topic.

My plan changed a few times, the location was originally going to be a metallic background, and the image was to be taken in the rain this is influenced buy a planet from the Star Wars universe called Kamino . This changed because I could not find a location to support this idea and did not have the appropriate funding to recreate the vision I had of my location and did not want to risk exposing the equipment to rain and could not think of a way to do this and protect the equipment ant the same time.
A couple of things had gone wrong by the time of the shoot, these problems were, problems with obtaining the props (helmet), trouble creating and transporting the paper stencil due to weather problems and agreeing with myself on what the female attire should have been; colours, styles, accessories etc. Having to find a last minute location was also a pain but after searching the city I found the perfect location.
On the day of the shoot as usual I expected everything that could have gone wrong to go wrong but everything was on within the set times and the shoot itself went extremely well not a single hitch in the plan.

If I could do this project again I would improve by taking more time in planning and search for multiple locations instead of just checking for one, multiple options are always best used. I would look deeper into the weather instead of just taking a swing and guessing the day and its weather, this would lead to better shots and less photoshop to make the images look much more legit and work more on the attire.
I would do this defiantly my looking after my time and doing much more research, my organizational skills throughout the project could have been vastly improved.

I would like to see my work displayed in an art gallery or maybe even street art. Say if my work was displayed as street art there is always the question of how to display a photo on the streets, if I could choose out of the two I would prefer my piece to be presented as street arts.

I do not think I could choose one specific part of my piece but If I were to put my finger on a certain part of my piece then I would have to choose the pose of the male model, I like how relaxed and comfortable the pose is compared to the female which in most of the images rather rigged.

Artist Statment

The Republic Has Fallen.

Scott Ross is a young photographer from Plymouth; he is still exploring the different kinds and angles of photography in which to specialize in.

From a personal and a professional point of view Scott deeply into music, in that respect I am looking in to consort photography, but for now he is just looking at every kind of photography to try and dabble in this and that attempting to get a feel of the profession to find hi specialization.

What he has produced for his Final Major Project is a Star Wars based photography piece, titled: The Republic Has Fallen. This is a piece to show the similarities between modern civilization and the fictional oppression within the Star Wars universe. The point behind this piece is to show that it doesn't matter what civilization looks on the surface we are all clones born to follow orders and those who disobey are punished and isolated.

Next he is going to do further study into photography and find my stride in this sector, he is hoping to achieve a career in concert photography, possibly follow certain artists around on tours and travel with his career.

FMP artist research Banksy Photographer.

For my FMP I am incorporating stenciled graffiti, so I am researching Banksy to link his work to my idea.

Graffiti is a street art to put forward a message to show a deeper meaning, this is much more apparent whith Banksy's work as all of his art has a meaning as he is a well known political activist.

This links well with my piece because the message of the image is also portrayed with graffiti.

Artist research for FMP. George Lucas/Director

For my FMP I am basing it on Star Wars, so i am researching George Lucas to link his work with my idea.

Star Wars is a series of films written and directed by George Lucas, this is linking his work to my Final major project, I am using the image of Stormtroopers. Stormtroopers are clones of a bounty hunter made up to be an unlimited army of terrible aim and useless armour.

I am using their image to show a recognised symbol of oppression or the oppressed.

The link between modern day and the Stormtroopers is that they were made to do as commanded without choice since creation, this is the link i am making between modern day society and the Sith Oppression.

a piece I have done in my spare time mainly for the purpose of my upcoming Photography interview, i am using this to show my ability to use and go through  Photoshop with majority ease, a rather simple edit but in my opinion this is a strong piece of work.

Research for final piece

For my final piece I am aiming to recreate Kamino, a water based planet from Star Wars. Kamino is the planet where the Stormtroopers were cloned and the dawn of the Sith Oppression, so i am wanting to put a model wearing a modern day dress and a Darth Vader or a Stormtrooper helmet, with the sentence "The Sith Oppression Is Upon Us" spray painted om to a grey backdrop with a projection of the Death Star blueprints.

The envelope

Person x sits in a plain badly light grey interrogation room, looking at a clock impatiently he waits nervously tapping his knees with his thumb. All of a sudden someone bursts into the room with an envelope addressed to “Detective X” in their hand. The envelope is then handed over and the contents are never revealed, person x then walks out of the room in deep thought, stops suddenly by the outside of the door and cries with rage and slams his hand into the wall. He looks up and begins to walk intensely down the corridor before him. Person x stops for thought, reaches into his pocket and realises the envelope is not there, he searches his clothes franticly for the envelope exclaiming by shouting in fear of losing it. Person x the envelope, where is it? Person x reappears in the original space as scene one and goes back to where they were originally sat to look for the envelope but it isn't there, only a note left behind which says “Check mate.”

DVD cover evaluation

What did I do?

To create this piece I imported a photo of someone I know while he was playing guitar, then put it up on photoshop then getting  couple of pictures from the internet and played round with them to change the colour and position of the original photos.

 What materials did i use?
I used Photoshop, MacBook Pro, Mobile camera and the internet.

What challenged me the most?
I haven't really had any problems with this particular project in which i am proud of because my photoshop skills are not very strong.

What was my biggest achievement?
My biggest achievement on this project was the ease i did it with.
I am very proud of the final product and would class this as my first successful photoshop piece, which i would class as an achievement.

How could i improve?
This could be improved with a bit more time and a delicate hand around the edges of the images to make them a bit more smooth and a bit more planning.

Costume Design

Costume design. Costume designers create the attire of each character by designing clothes and accessories the actors will wear on camera. Costume designers have to carefully study the personalities of the roles.
This depends on preference. Costume design is a job that can be done individually or as a part of a team.

The whole team, talk through budget, fabric and accessories needed and who will get them and where to look, they basically help plan out the whole wardrobe and the restrictions of its making.
Majority of Costume designers work as freelance and are employed under short-term contracts with the production team.
Pay depends on the way you work, being Freelance to Full-time employee.

Book Of ELI

The front cover of The Book Of ELI has a foreground of a tall black male wearing a dirty military jacket and what looks like a shotgun on his back, the background looks like a post apocalyptic city like wasteland. The grey and dusty environment makes me think this.  With worn black and white text. Age 15 certificates.

The spine of The Book Of ELI is represented a navy blue leather bound book with a gold trim, With distributing logo’s and age certificates.

The back is also shown as a Navy blue Book,

Final Piece Evaluation

My final piece is what was supposed to be a documentary.

I made this piece on Adobe Premier. First i started off by grabbing a few different songs from the internet so i could try a couple and choose the best one to fit the clips, then i downloaded the music videos and took some time syncing the audio and the video to keep the audio quality. I then downloaded around 23 different album arts, to show a variety of artists within the same genre, i recorded answers to questions shown on screen.

My main difficulty was the time restriction, the short amount of time made it difficult to decide what to include. A couple technical difficulties set me back a little as well.

I personally do not like anything about this work.

I would change a lot about it, If i could i would make it longer, with more interviews and stick to my planning. The questioning scenes would be longer and more elaboration. The title scenes would be shorter.

Case Study

I’m researching a film director named Sir Ridley Scott.

He works with, Producers, actors, make-up, cameramen, set designers, composers, Costume designers, Art department, sound techs and special effects.
Their bosses are Producers.

They earn an according amount due to how much their movie make, Example Kingdom of heaven made a mass gross of $47,396,698, so he would have made an according amount.

The distributer of this movie has employed him, which was 20th Century Fox.

I chose Ridley Scott because I have always been a fan of his work.

treatment

Documentary treatment

It is starting with a slide show of album covers fading with fading in on top.
Then it will cut to a pan shot of albums in a music store with a voice over in to interviews with according music genres playing quietly.
Them on camera while I ask them a few questions on whether or not they think their social groups have altered their opinion on music and dress styles.
I hope this documentary will help to make people more accepting of all music genre types instead of insulting the particular person for musical choice.
Ending with different people from different groups accepting different types and genres of music and accepting that other people have a different taste than they do and not judging them for their taste in music.

Lambchop - Gone Tomorrow

It is a documentary shown in the form of a music video.

The artist for the piece of work is, Lambchop.

An Idiot Abroad

This series is about Tourism and experiencing different culture on a regular basis.

In my opinion it is about how it can be difficult to fall in to foreign cultures and life style.

The target audience for this show is for the more mature people because of the amount of explicit language.
